Just the ramblings of your average, friendly neighborhood technomancer.

About Me

Hello there, my name is Anthony Sinette. I am an IT professional by day, and a freelance technical consultant by night. I have both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in Computer Science. I have been in the professional IT industry since ~2008. I grew up with computers and technical gadgets since I was little. My mom worked for the Tandy Corporation and was always bringing things home. Whether computers, camcorders, cellphones, or midi instruments, they always fascinated me.

As a youngster, I loved to take things apart in order to understand how they worked. I was not always good at putting things back together then, but that has somewhat been my specialized role in the IT world. You break it, I fix it. Like Mr. Wolfe from Pulp Fiction, I am known as a cleaner. I come into projects that have gone horribly wrong and I fix them, documenting the process along the way. Once the project is back on track, the right technologies are in place, and the customer desired outcome is in production, I hand off the compiled documentation to the team and then move onto the next project. The work is very rewarding and allows me to come into contact with all sorts of technologies and processes.

I am also a Free Software (F/LOSS) advocate and have been using GNU/Linux since ~1999; full time since ~2001. My favorite distribution is Debian GNU/Linux. I run the unstable branch, which is actually pretty darn stable, and I use it like a rolling release. I have contributed to projects in the past as well as the present and the future. Unfortunately, something like GitHub did not exist in the past and a lot of reference to the work that I have done has died with projects as they were merged, orphaned, turned into new projects. If you find yourself looking through old mailing lists, you may find my name or one of my handles.

I am also a Linux gamer and run steam on top of Arch Linux. I gave up on MS Windows in the home back in 2001 and have not looked back since. The “Year of the Linux Desktop” started for me then. I do use MS Windows in my professional life and am very well versed in MS Windows [Server] administration. I also administer Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Debian based, and Oracle systems. With that said, the world runs on Unix-like systems and even Microsoft has come to that realization. Huzzah!

You will hear me refer to my self sometimes as a technomancer. Whether commanding them things to do off label tasks, resurrecting bricked hardware from the, or just saving machines from the dumpster, I have been able to breath new like into things; hence the reference to a technomancer. It is not a term that I created, but I feel that it suits me quite well. I have also created software shims and reverse-engineered software to function in a new environment.

All of that to say: I have a vast knowledge of different technologies out there and I have garnered over 15 years of professional experience using that knowledge to solve real-world problems that you may run into. I don’t have all of the answers, but I can work with you through your issues. If you feel that there is a problem that I may be able to help you with, please do not hesitate to contact me @ inquiries [at] sinette [dot] xyz.

If you are interested in current things that I am working on, you can always visit the blog or check out my GitHub. Occasionally you can catch me on Twitch and/or YouTube explaining a technology or documenting my findings and fixes.

If you want to see which projects I have worked on and which companies that I have worked for in my professional career, you can take a look at my Curriculum Vitae.
