Well, as some of you have noticed, the blog is empty and the website is a generic placeholder. Since my original domain name expired and they were trying to commit highway robbery on the renewal fees after 2 years, I migrated the domain from .io to .xyz. I purchased the new domain through Cloudflare and migrated things over. Let’s just say that mistakes were made…
While helpful, the Cloudflare security features caused a lot of breakage. I did not realize the issue was with Cloudflare security until 2 days of troubleshooting and changes. The reason… I was doing all of the security handling server side. Essentially, Cloudflare has a few modes of operation in regard to DNS and connection proxies. The default mode is to basically work as a man-in-the-middle; this causes my server’s Spidey Senses to tingle and as a result, redirects and connection proxying no longer work; the server refuses to serve an active connection.
Unfortunately for me, I thought that the issue was on my end so I ended up blowing everything out and starting over. After the third cold start…. I decided that it must be a Cloudflare thing because I am not a noob when it come to setting up a LAMP. Once I figured out what needed to be done on the Cloudflare side, things started working… but I am so far off from the original configuration of my backups that I will have to slowly add the missing blog pages and business site pages. So bear with me. The old content will be back soon™.
